Passion for service, community connection, and desire to create positive change are what drive NBCC volunteers Joshua Paul, Meghan Morrison, and Valeria Evans.
Joshua Paul’s volunteer journey began at a young age, but it was the loss of his brother that ignited his passion for service. Since 2014, Joshua has raised nearly $100,000 in support of community organizations and established two NBCC scholarships to honour his brother’s legacy.
“Losing my brother in an industrial accident only a few short months from Graduation from NBCC shaped my future,” said Joshua. “Volunteering is a simple but meaningful way to give back to a community that has done so much in my life to get me where I am today.”
For Meghan Morrison, NBCC’s Director of Experience, supporting community initiatives like Harvest Music Festival, has provided unique opportunities for personal growth and rewarding experiences.
“Volunteering has connected me with incredible people, helped me learn how to work with just about anyone, and given me new skills and space to build my confidence in them while contributing to creating the community that I want to live in,” she shared.
Valeria Evans, a Building Engineering Technology student at NBCC, initially connected with ‘The Humanity Project’ in Moncton to complete a service-learning component of her program. The experience she says had a profound impact, helping her understand the importance of volunteering and that anyone can make a difference in their communities.
“Volunteering your time to help others is an incredibly rewarding experience,” she said. “Even small acts of kindness, such as offering a listening ear or expressing your care and support, can make a significant difference in someone’s life.”
NBCC’s award-winning Robertson Institute for Community Leadership is paying tribute to all volunteers within our College Community as part of National Volunteer Week, running from April 14 – 20, 2024.
This year, the College will also recognize two outstanding NBCC alumni for their dedication to transforming lives and communities through volunteerism and community service. Each recipient will be honoured with a $1,000 Alumni Volunteer Grant to support their New Brunswick charity of choice. Learn more.
Since 2014, NBCC learners, staff, and alumni have contributed more than 90,000 service hours to more than 1,700 community projects.
