Kori Daminato is a second-generation NBCC student and the proud recipient of a 2024 Alumni Family Scholarship, an annual award that supports and encourages future generations of NBCC alumni, generously sponsored by TD Insurance.
Kori Daminato knew NBCC was the right choice for her, thanks in large part to her mother’s personal experience with the College.
Margaret Lynch graduated from NBCC’s Correctional Techniques program in 1999. Although her career path has evolved over the years, Margaret credits her NBCC experience for providing her with a strong foundation to succeed in the workforce. Armed with the support of her mother and NBCC’s positive reputation, Kori enrolled in NBCC’s Business Administration: Marketing program in Fall 2023.
“I know that NBCC has good rapport with local businesses and other post-secondary institutions,” said Kori. “Whether I decide to jump right into the workforce after graduation or continue my education further, I’m confident that having NBCC in my portfolio will boost my ability to pursue whatever comes next.”
Outside of the classroom, Kori is focusing on growing her business, KD Makeup Artistry. As an experienced make-up artist, Kori offers various services across the maritime provinces, from weddings and bridal makeup to TV and film sets with prosthetics and special effects. For Kori, attending NBCC has given her newfound skills and confidence that will support her in continuing her journey as an entrepreneur.
“In terms of growing my business, I wanted to be more self-sufficient and confident in the ‘behind-the-scenes’ part of owning a business, like managing expenses, legal contracts, taxes, and advertising,” she shared. “I’ve seen a lot of improvement in myself already, and I’m excited to continue in this direction.”
Kori’s story is one of perseverance, family support, and the transformative power of education. Two more NBCC Alumni Family Scholarships are available to current students who are family members of NBCC Alumni. Learn more.
