NBCC welcomes Kenyan delegation as part of international partnership

Kenyan Delegation

MONCTON – New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) is hosting a delegation of Kenyan educators at its Moncton campus September 16-22 as part of the Kenya Education for Employment Program (KEFEP), an initiative of Colleges and Institutes Canada (CiCAN).

KEFEP supports technical and vocational training for young people across Kenya. The initiative is designed to build the capacity of government agencies and Kenya polytechnics in delivering high quality, relevant and accessible training programs for youth.

“We’re honoured to share our campus, our culture and our knowledge with our peers from Kenya,” said NBCC President and CEO Marilyn Luscombe. “Our participation in KEFEP is consistent with our College’s vision of transforming lives and communities in that it provides our learners and staff with knowledge and perspectives to help them excel as community leaders and global citizens.”

During their visit to Moncton, the Kenyan delegation will take part in an Indigenous smudging ceremony, a tree planting ceremony, tours of local industry and visits to Shediac and Cape Enrage. They will also attend presentations on applied research, women in engineering, strategic planning and business development.

NBCC is partnering with College of the North Atlantic (CNA), Newfoundland and Labrador’s public college, to bring the Kenyan delegation to Atlantic Canada. Following their visit to New Brunswick, they will spend a week at CNA.

“CNA extends a warm welcome to the delegation from Kenya, as they explore our facilities and landscapes in New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador,” said CNA President & CEO Bruce Hollett. “CNA is proud to work with NBCC as a partner in this project. Thanks to the ongoing support of CICan, we are doing our part as post-secondary education training providers to help developing countries help themselves, and foster our social responsibility on an international stage.”

With over 90 programs and six campuses across New Brunswick, NBCC is a provincially recognized post-secondary institution renowned for producing skilled, knowledgeable college graduates. NBCC offers students full-time concentrated study periods in one- and two-year certificate and diploma programs. For more information, visit: www.nbcc.ca.
