MIRAMICHI – For more than four decades, New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) has been a driving force in New Brunswick’s economic and social prosperity. NBCC’s programs, services and initiatives support the aspirations of individual learners, further the opportunities of the labour market and, in collaboration with partners, enable solutions for the challenges of communities and industry.
One of those partners is Envirem Organics, a diversified environmental company that specializes in manufacturing organic bio-products for the lawn and garden, turf and landscape, organic agriculture and biofueld markets. For years, Envirem has partnered with the Miramichi Campus of NBCC in a mutually beneficial relationship.
“We’ve hired a lot of graduates from the Environmental Technology program at the Miramichi Campus,” said Bob Kiely, president of Envirem. “In fact, most of our environmental techs came out of that program. We have two here that have been with us for 17 years.”
Providing employment for NBCC graduates is just one of the ways that Envirem partners with the College. The company also donates the garden project at the Miramichi Campus, provides tours of their Miramichi facility to students and hosts student practicums. In return, NBCC provides a steady stream of qualified graduates to fill Envirem’s human resources needs, as well as flexible training programs for Envirem’s existing employees.
“We’re very fortunate to be in a location like Miramichi, with the Campus right there,” said Kiely. “Having access to those training opportunities for our employees has allowed us to grow.”
In celebration of the partnership between the College and the company, NBCC Miramichi has awarded its first Industry Partner Award to Envirem. The award recognizes the company’s consistent and dedicated support of NBCC learners and alumni.
