A firsthand view of skills training at work

MIRAMICHI, ST. ANDREWS – When the Hon. Ginette Pettipas-Taylor, federal Minister of Health, wanted to see skills training at work, she knew that New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) was the place to visit.

Minister Pettipas-Taylor toured the Miramichi and St. Andrews campuses to discuss policies and programs related to skills training from the 2019 federal budget, and experience the programs that make NBCC a driving force in the New Brunswick economy.

In Miramichi, she got a demonstration of a mechanized forestry simulator, and even tried her hand at felling some virtual trees! She also visited a class of Workplace Essential Skills and GED learners, and toured the Carpentry and Electrical shops.

In St. Andrews, her tour included stops in the Human Services class, the Practical Nursing lab, the Hotel and Restaurant Operations program’s restaurant and kitchen, the Habitat for Humanity house being built by carpentry students and the Welding shop.
